DSG - Romans
Review taken from 'Fantastic Plastics'
There have been a number of makers producing sets of Romans in the last couple of years, and now this enterprising Argentine company has joined in. DSG began by producing plastic figures from old Britain’s Deetail moulds sold to them by previous owners of the company. Then they branched out by doing some conversions to make new figures. A while back they went and actually produced brand new figures in the form of some very nice Vikings, and now they have another new set, this time of Romans.
There are six figures in a set, two ‘officers’, a ‘standard’ bearer, and three legionaries. They are very much in the Deetail style, even to the rectangular green bases, but these are plastic on the DSG figures rather than the metal of the Britains. They come in two pre-painted uniform colour variants, green and red (though some of my review samples were grey – a unique collectable variant? – offers please!). These are nicely sized ‘chunky’ figures with expressive faces and sensible action poses. The standard bearer is particularly striking in animal skin head covering and cloak. The officers wear contoured armour, and there is also a ‘Praetorian Guard’ set, which are the same figures painted in black armour and clothing.
