Cunnyngham Collectibles 44th Tennessee Infantry
Review taken from 'Fantastic Plastics'
As flagged in Plastic News previously, this new US outfit has produced a first set of ACW figures. They are the specifically named 44th Tennessee and are true 1:32 scale, and therefore not as chunky as some other modern makers figures. They are reminiscent of the old Herald, or more recent IMEX and Replicants ACW figures. They come in grey plastic, of a hard-soft consistency, 12 figures in six poses. The detailing is very crisp and clean, with no in-fills and even the loops of the musket slings are there. The set is of a firing line, with all six figures engaged in an activity connected with shooting. Four are kneeling or crouching; one loading, which is a tricky thing to do with a muzzle loading musket but one which soldiers of the period quickly developed a skill for in the lethal fire fights which took place.
Despite the named regiment, they can be used as any ‘Johnny Reb’ outfit, and the clothing and equipment is spot on for the period. There is a wide range of variations, including a period peaked cap amongst the more usual kepi and slouch hats. They could also be recruited to the Union side too. A nice touch is the inclusion of a couple of spare muskets. Any bent muskets respond well to the hot water treatment – just immerse the offending weapon in just boiled water, take out and allow it to straighten. No doubt these will be a most welcome addition to the ACW figures available to the many collectors and gamers of the period.
